📖 QUR’ANIC VERSE

📌 Surah Al-Ḥashr 59:23

“He is Allah, other than whom there is no deity — the Sovereign, the Pure, the Perfection, the Giver of Security, the Overseer, the Almighty, the Compeller, the Supreme in Greatness (Al-Mutakabbir). Exalted is Allah above whatever they associate with Him.”

📚 Tafsir (Ibn Kathir, Al-Qurtubi, Al-Baghawi)**

  • Al-Mutakabbir here means:
    • Exalted above all creation
    • Unaffected by flaw, need, or limitation
    • Great in essence, actions, and attributes
  • When Allah displays greatness, it’s true, pure, and beautiful — unlike the false pride of creation.

His Kibriyāʼ is not a sin — it is a right that belongs only to Him.

🪞 Tafhīm (Relatable Understanding)

  • When others boast, it’s often insecurity.
  • When Allah declares His greatness — it is a fact, and it humbles the soul that knows its place.

To recognize Al-Mutakabbir is to realize: I am not in control, and I don’t have to be.

📜 HADITH NARRATION

📌 Sahih Muslim 2620a

Narrated by Abu Saʿīd al-Khudrī (may Allah be pleased with him) — Companion known for his devotion and deep understanding of Allah’s Names:

The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Allah, the Exalted, says:
‘Pride is My cloak, and greatness is My robe.
Whoever competes with Me in either, I will throw him into Hell.’”

📚 Tafsir (An-Nawawi, Ibn Rajab)**

  • This means:
    • Only Allah owns true greatness — anyone who pretends to it in arrogance is claiming what belongs to Him alone.
    • Human pride is rejected because it is false and self-centered, while Allah’s pride is majestic and real.

Al-Mutakabbir does not share His throne — and those who try will be broken by the truth.

🪞 Tafhīm (Relatable Understanding)

  • Every time you feel superior to others, pause.

Al-Mutakabbir says: “That seat is Mine — not yours.”

🤲 PERSONALIZED DU‘A

(Inspired by Qur’an 59:23 and Hadith Muslim 2620a)
Not from the Prophet’s exact words — but drawn from authentic meanings

Yā Mutakabbir,
Let me never claim what belongs only to You.
Remove pride from my chest, and replace it with awe.
Let Your greatness anchor me when I feel small — and humble me when I try to feel too big.
And let me rise not through status, but through surrender.
