📖 QUR’ĀNIC VERSE

📌 Surah Āli ʿImrān 3:2

“Allah — there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living (Al-Ḥayy), the Sustainer (Al-Qayyūm).”

Also appears in:

📌 Surah Al-Baqarah 2:255 (Ayat al-Kursī)

“…Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth…”

📚 Tafsir (Ibn Kathir, Al-Sa‘di, Al-Baghawi)**

  • Al-Qayyūm is:
    • Upholder of everything — no moment, atom, or soul moves without Him
    • The One who needs no helper, no rest, and no pause
    • Self-subsisting: He is independent in His being and in His actions
  • All other beings:
    • Live because He allows it
    • Exist within His design
    • Depend on His will to continue

Every second of your life has been sustained — not by your own power, but by Al-Qayyūm’s mercy.

🪞 Tafhīm (Relatable Understanding)

  • You ask: “Who is holding me up when I feel like falling apart?”

Al-Qayyūm answers: “I am. I never sleep. I never let go. You are not held together by your strength — but by Mine.”

📜 HADITH REFERENCE

📌 Sunan Ibn Mājah 3856

Narrated by Anas ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him):

The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Shall I not teach you a duʿā that, if you say it, Allah will remove your worry?”
Say:
“Yā Ḥayy Yā Qayyūm, bi raḥmatika astaghīth.”
(O Ever-Living, O Sustainer, by Your mercy I seek relief.)

📚 Tafsir (Ibn Rajab, Al-Nawawi)**

  • The Prophet ﷺ called upon Al-Qayyūm in moments of anxiety and need for strength
  • This Name invites us to:
    • Surrender our illusion of control
    • Call on the One who never tires
    • Trust that He is maintaining our life and path, even when we aren’t aware of it

You don’t need to carry everything. Al-Qayyūm already is.

🪞 Tafhīm (Relatable Understanding)

  • You whisper: “I can’t manage anymore — it’s too much.”

Al-Qayyūm replies: “Then stop trying to sustain what I already am. Rest — I am awake.”

🤲 PERSONALIZED DUʿĀ

(Inspired by Qur’an 2:255 and Hadith Ibn Mājah 3856)
Not from the Prophet’s exact words — but drawn from authentic meanings

Yā Qayyūm,
I can’t hold all of this.
So I give it to You — the One who never blinks, never sleeps, never breaks.
Sustain me in the moments I forget how to breathe.
And carry me when my hands let go — knowing that Yours never will.
